Avove Executive Leadership Team Take on Kayak Challenge for Mind and Maggie’s

At Avove, we are committed to giving back through our community initiatives, fundraising and supporting our team in their individual charity projects. This month, our Executive Leadership Team is taking on a kayak challenge across Lake Ullswater to raise money for our charity partners.

Avove's Executive Leadership Team take on kayak challenge for Mind and Maggie's.

Avove Executive Leadership Team 14km kayak challenge

Following on from our Executive Leadership Team’s successful half marathon hike in the Peak District in 2024, they are swapping their suits for lifejackets and paddles, as they take part in an epic 2025 Charity Fundraising Challenge. On Saturday 26th July, our ELT will be kayaking 14km across Lake Ullswater to raise vital funds to support the work of our two company charity partners, chosen by our employees – mental health charity, Mind, and cancer care services charity, Maggies.

Committed to making a real impact

This challenge isn’t just about physical effort, it’s about making a real impact. We are raising vital funds to support the work of our two company charity partners – Mind and Maggie’s. Both partners offer critical support at significant and challenging times in people’s lives, and the funds we raise will help them to continue their important work.

Who are Mind?

Mind are a mental health charity who provide vital information and support to people living with a mental illness. Alongside their support, they also campaign for change and fight for better mental health support for people in England and Wales.

At Avove, we are committed to supporting the health and well-being of our team members and value the important work that Mind undertakes to support those experiencing mental illness. Many of our team have undertaken their own individual fundraising efforts for Mind, and we have raised more than £16,000 over the last two years as their charity partner.

Who are Maggie’s?

Maggie’s is an independent charity that offers free support to anyone who is living with cancer and their families. The charity runs a number of drop-in centres that offer professional support for a range of queries and concerns, from treatment side effects to financial worries.

Maggie’s is our new charity partner this year, voted for by our employees who value and appreciate the unique support they offer to those living with cancer.

Avove’s ELT steps outside of their comfort zone for a good cause

Speaking about the challenge, Avove’s General Counsel, David Holmes, said:

“This year we have decided to do something different, getting out on the water in a unique event to challenge the ELT for a day, both physically and mentally. The challenge will take the team out of their comfort zone, from desks to kayaks, paddling the full length of Ullswater in the Lake District, a distance of some 14 km. This will draw attention to the benefits of the Lakes as recreational spaces and the need for sustainable water and wastewater management in the sector that is so important to our business.”

Every little helps

We want to wish the best of luck to our Executive Leadership team in their efforts to complete their kayak challenge.
