Sustainability

Our Commitment

We are a responsible organisation, committed to creating a sustainable future and making a positive impact, socially, economically and environmentally in the communities where we work and live.

Our vision is to move life forward by basing all our actions and projects on sustainable principles, which protect our planet and build communities for the future. This is underpinned by good governance practices and the highest ethical standards.

Environmental

Committed to creating a sustainable future

We have signed up to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) and strive to be 100% compliant with environmental legislation. We design our services and processes to minimise environmental pollution and maximise carbon efficiency.

We use clean energy at our facilities and across our fleet wherever possible to facilitate our net zero ambitions. Our dedicated environmental team ensures that we adhere to the highest possible standards. A core aspect of this is our approach to biodiversity net gain and protecting wildlife and natural habitats.

Governance

Being responsible is at the core of everything we do

We are transparent and collaborative and ensure that everything we do is ethical and in line with The Avove Code – our commitment to always doing the right thing. This approach to good governance practice is underpinned by our company policies and values, which guide the way we all behave and how we work together. All colleagues receive regular mandatory training, including a focus on modern slavery and human trafficking, anti-bribery, fraud, diversity and inclusion and ethics.

Our Board is committed to delivering to the highest levels of ethics and ensuring we are a responsible and trusted business that meets the expectations and standards of all our stakeholders.

‘Mind’ Charitable Partnership

Following a colleague vote, we launched a two-year partnership with Mind in March 2023. All Avove colleagues are encouraged to get involved with fundraising to help raise understanding of mental health.

Volunteering

At Avove, we love giving back to local communities and one of the ways we do this is through our Volunteering Scheme. Each year, we offer all colleagues one day’s paid leave to volunteer for a local good cause or charity, which can be booked through the Neighbourly online volunteering platform.

Matched Funding

Many of our colleagues have charities that are close to their hearts, so we support colleagues’ personal fundraising activities by offering a matched funding scheme.

Social Impact

We strive to be a force for good in society and deliver long-term social value in the communities we serve.

We are passionate about the communities where we work and live and aim to support them by leaving a positive legacy. All our operations and processes have been designed to ensure that we have a positive impact on colleagues, our supply chain partners, clients and communities.

Supporting our colleagues: We are an equal opportunities employer and are passionate about creating a diverse and inclusive working environment where all colleagues are valued, can thrive and achieve their potential. We support colleagues by offering a broad range of benefits as well as competitive and fair pay. We invest in training and developing our people and know that to be successful, we need to have strong, positive mental health, so we partner with third parties such as Mates in Mind and Mind to support us in this area.

Supporting our communities: We deliver crucial services for our clients and believe in positively impacting the communities we work in. We have signed up to the social mobility pledge and other important inclusion commitments to signal our intent to create opportunities for underrepresented groups and the people living in those communities. Partnering with local supply chains is key to our economic contribution; supporting these small and medium enterprises to grow and contribute to their local economies. All of our internal colleagues are encouraged to give back to the community through our charity partnership, volunteering days and matched funding schemes.
