The Avove Yorkshire Run for WaterAid 2023 – 5k & 10k

We are passionate about ensuring that everyone has access to clean water, and as such, we are keen supporters of WaterAid and its aims.

Following on from the success of Yorkshire Water’s 2022 Run for WaterAid event, we were delighted for the second year running to be the main sponsor for the 2023 ‘The Avove Yorkshire Run for WaterAid 2023 – 5K and 10K’.

The event took place in the Washburn Valley on the southern side of the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – the scenic Swinsty Reservoir is a popular site for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The race was held on Sunday 24 September 2023.

As well as sponsoring the event, Avove colleagues and friends took on the challenge to compete and help fundraise in support of WaterAid. Well done to everyone who took part – the runners, volunteers and those who helped to organise the event – and also a big thank you to the Avove team who took part:

  • John Higgins
  • Louise Mount
  • Sally Jayne Quinn
  • Nicola Dwyer
  • Adam Barnes
  • Reece Jagger
  • Nicola Stephenson
  • Emma Higgins

“It’s worrying, that in today’s world, there are people who cannot access clean water. So, when the opportunity came along to support WaterAid and raise much-needed funds to help them bring clean water to communities – I jumped at the chance.

“I am proud that Avove got behind the event and encouraged colleagues to get involved. It shows that not only can we have an impact on local communities, but we can also offer our support globally. We all need clean water, no matter who or where we are.”

Avove Site Supervisor, Adam Barnes

This year’s event saw an increase in runners registering and raised over £6,000 to support WaterAid. We strive to be a force for good in society and to deliver long-term social value in the communities we serve.

All money raised from the race helps WaterAid bring clean water to 130,000 people in Ethiopia. Yorkshire Water and Kelda have committed to raising £1 million for projects in Ethiopia over five years – all funds and sponsorship raised from this event go towards achieving this target.

WaterAid is determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation.

“Thanks to everyone for making the 2023 Avove Run for WaterAid such a great success – I’ve had so much positive feedback on how much people enjoyed the day. It was great to continue our partnership with Avove and we appreciate the amazing support from them in the organisation of the event.

It was fantastic to see such a huge growth in participant numbers from last year, helping us towards raising over £6,000 for WaterAid, and I’m already looking forward to next year’s event!”
