We have partnered with Neighbourly to deliver our new volunteering programme

We have partnered with Neighbourly to create an interactive online platform which provides an inclusive range of volunteering opportunities which are linked to our social impact aims of protecting the environment, increasing social mobility and supporting health and wellbeing.

Partnering with Neighbourly

To support us in delivering our new volunteering programme, we are proud to be partnering with Neighbourly – an award-winning giving platform that provides colleagues with access to over 30,000 good causes and full impact reporting.

As a company, we love giving back to the communities we work and live in. One of the ways we do this is through volunteering to support good causes that protect the environment, increase social mobility and promote mental health and wellbeing.

We’re delighted to be working with Avove on their volunteering programme. Local charities and good causes are in need of support now more than ever and employee volunteering is a key part of helping these organisations build capacity and deliver projects.

We’re looking forward to helping Avove’s employees connect and build relationships with causes that they care about, in and around the locations where they operate.”

Planting trees to protect the environment

To launch our 2024 volunteering programme, a team of eight colleagues  joined forces, through Neighbourly, with Calder Rivers Trust.

Our team of volunteers planted nearly 200 willow, hazel and hawthorn trees as part of a Calder Rivers Trust natural flood management project near Hebden Bridge.

The project, which requires more than 600 trees and 120 metres of hedgerow to be planted, is funded by Calderdale Council.

Once established, the trees and hedgerows will create multiple benefits including acting as a natural barrier to slow down the movement of water across the valley and reducing the volume of water entering the river downstream at peak flow times.

This project also helps to recharge groundwater resources and maintain the base flow in rivers during dry periods.

There are so many great reasons to be planting trees right now. Protecting the environment is a priority for Avove and a key component of our wider sustainability strategy as we work towards Net Zero. It has been great for the team to come together and take action to support their local area by planting trees to protect and enhance the wonderful landscape. And of course, it’s good for our health and wellbeing to be working in the great outdoors with like-minded people.”

John Higgins

Avove Account Director

The volunteering we carried out for the Calder Rivers Trust, where we planted nearly 200 trees in one day, was really hard work. However, it was so rewarding when we finished and looked up at the valley and could see all the new trees we had planted. The location we worked in was so scenic and it felt really good to be outdoors and giving back to the community.”

Calder Rivers Trust

Calder Rivers Trust is part of the national rivers trust movement, working to protect, promote and enhance our freshwater ecosystems for both people and wildlife.

They operate across CalderdaleKirklees, and Wakefield and all the rivers, streams, waterways and watercourses connected to them.

Our colleagues are passionate about making a difference and utilising their skills and experience in the local communities where the teams work and live.

The team took part in this day as part of our volunteering scheme which allows every colleague to spend one working day a year giving back to good causes that protect the environment, increase social mobility and promote mental health and wellbeing.

The hard work from the team at Avove contributed to one of our natural flood management projects where we are planting 600 trees and 120m of hedgerow. The team planted an impressive 185 trees, which was a great start to our planting season. We’d like to give a huge thanks to all involved, and we look forward to collaborating with you in the future!”
