Avove receives Silver Award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme

Following Avove signing the Armed Forces Covenant in October 2022 and achieving the Bronze award, we are proud to have been awarded the Silver Award in The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS), in national recognition of our commitment to the Armed Forces.

The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme encourages employers to support people who served in the Armed Forces and inspire other organisations to do the same. The scheme asks organisations to pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to the defence and Armed Forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.

The Silver Award is awarded to employers who have pledged to support the Armed Forces, signed the Armed Forces Covenant, promoted being Armed Forces-friendly and are open to employing reservists, Armed Forces veterans, cadet instructors and military spouses and partners.

Avove’s General Counsel and Executive Sponsor for Armed Forces, David Holmes, said:

We are proud to pledge our support to our Armed Forces community and are delighted that our work within the utility sector has been recognised with this Silver award.

This award demonstrates that Armed Forces community engagement is a business priority. We know that this community brings a rich source of talent across this industry, and I have seen first-hand the contributions our military colleagues and their families make to the business. We have our sights firmly fixed on working towards the Gold Award.”

Avove recognises the value that serving personnel, reservists, veterans and their military families bring to our business and the utilities sector. The principles of the Armed Forces Covenant are recognised at Avove, by:

  • Promoting the fact that we are an armed forces-friendly organisation
  • Seeking to support the employment of veterans young and old and working with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP)
  • Seeking to support our employees who choose to be members of the Reserve forces, including accommodating their training and deployment where possible
  • Aiming to actively participate in Armed Forces Day

“I would like to thank and congratulate the recipients of this year’s Employer Recognition Scheme Silver awards. A Silver award recognises the fantastic efforts of employers throughout the UK who have both elevated their commitments under the Armed Forces Covenant and provided actual benefits to the Armed Forces Community. The winners should all be proud of their life-changing impact and the fresh opportunities they are providing to our reservists, veterans and their families.”
