Avove wins LSBUD award for Best Damage Reporting Process following 50% reduction in utility strikes

Avove recognised with LSBUD award for Best Damage Reporting Process at National Safe Digging Awards

We’re proud to announce that we have been recognised with the award for the Best Damage Reporting Process at the annual LineSearch Before U Dig (LSBUD) National Safe Digging Awards.

Avove’s ‘Locate, Mark, Avoid, Protect’ wins at National Safe Digging Awards

This week Avove attended the LSBUD National Safe Digging Award, also known as ‘The Larries’. We were delighted that our ‘Locate, Mark, Avoid, Protect’ process was recognised for its effectiveness in reducing utility strikes by over 50%, a testament to its Work Together > Safe Together ethos that underpins its commitment to exceptional Health & Safety.

The category recognises organisations that have shown the most commitment to recording damages and near misses over a measured period, demonstrating Avove’s dedication to coaching and training colleagues and supply chain partners, ensuring safe excavation practices. The initiative not only enhances team safety, but it minimises the number of damages incurred.

As part of this process, any damages were followed up by Avove’s dedicated service avoidance advisor, ensuring lessons were learned, with results and data reviewed monthly to ensure the long-term improvement of essential operations.

Avove’s Site Manager, Gareth Williams, and Streetworks Coordinator, Carl Flint, were also nominated in the Safe Digging Hero category, which recognises colleagues who have shown an unwavering commitment to safe digging, going above and beyond to ensure works are carried out safely.

Building a culture that values safe and responsible working

Speaking about the achievement, Head of HSEQ at Avove, Liz Groundland, commented:

“As a company, we have worked hard to build a culture that values safe and responsible working, empowering the wider team to lead by their own example.”

“An award for Best Damage Reporting Process is very pleasing, as it shows that our Work Together > Safe Together ethos has effectively promoted a supportive environment, benefitting our entire team and the wider public. The fact this has been recognised by LSBUD judges is fantastic, with our 50% reduction noted as a key factor for the award.

“I’d also like to congratulate both Gareth and Carl for their Safe Digging Hero nominations – they typify our responsible approach to working, ensuring exceptional results are achieved in a safe and secure manner.”

Remi Ajayi-Dagunduro, Health Safety & Environmental Advisor at Avove, added: “This is a fantastic achievement for the company and one that reinforces our commitment to best practice, safe operating.

“I’d also like to thank LSBUD for hosting an incredible event. I had the opportunity to participate in a charity penalty shootout competition, with every goal scored resulting in a £10 donation from LSBUD to breast cancer charity, Coppafeel. It was a lot of fun, and we look forward to being involved again next year.”

Unwavering commitment to Health and Safety

Avove’s commitment to Health & Safety has been well-documented, having recently received a twelfth consecutive RoSPA Award in addition to its 100% Achilles Health & Safety audit score, a demonstration of its commitment to keeping colleagues, customers, clients and contractors safe at work.
