Avove’s Executive Leadership Team Volunteer to Decorate Local Shelter for The Brick

Avove’s Executive Leadership Team mark Volunteers Week by decorating an emergency shelter for The Brick
As a company, we are committed to supporting local communities through our volunteering days. With the arrival of Volunteers Week, our Executive Leadership Team (ELT) swapped their pens for paintbrushes and volunteered with The Brick to redecorate an emergency shelter in Leigh.
Our longstanding support of The Brick
As a local employer with our head office in Chorley, we are a longstanding supporter of anti-poverty and anti-homelessness charity, The Brick, as part of an ongoing commitment to enhancing the areas in which our teams work and live. We have previously volunteered at the Community Bank and have donated to the charity as part of our annual company roadshow events.
The Brick run a local shelter in Leigh, which required support with the painting and decorating of its spacious communal area. Our Executive Leadership Team stepped up to the task of assisting with the project.
The Brick’s Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, Rose Corns, organised the volunteering day to improve the look and feel of the communal area, for the benefit of the residents. When our team arrived, Rose took them through The Brick’s ongoing efforts across Wigan and Leigh, with the charity currently supporting around 125 people per night through the provision of safe living accommodation.

A company-wide commitment to volunteering
Speaking about the Executive Leadership Team’s successful volunteering day, People and Culture Director at Avove, Becky Kimber, said:
“We had a brilliant day volunteering at the ABEN in Leigh and it was good to learn more about the fantastic work The Brick are doing to support the community in the Greater Manchester Area. As a company, we are committed to supporting local communities through our volunteering days.
“I’m pleased to hear about the positive impact our work has had on residents, which of course, is the driving force and motivation for all the community initiatives we are involved in. We look forward to supporting our friends at The Brick again soon.”

A rewarding volunteering experience for a great cause
Commenting on his experience volunteering for The Brick, Avove’s Commercial Director, Sandy Dalziel, said:
“It’s been a really rewarding experience, and it’s nice to see everyone coming together for a great cause.
Darren Jones, Finance Director added:
“For me, the highlight was visiting the shelter and seeing the important contribution the charity is making to the community, and it was great to witness the transformation of the communal area throughout the day.”

Collaborating together for the local community
Commenting on the efforts of The Brick and our ELT’s contribution towards the project, Rose Corns, Volunteer Engagement Coordinator at the Brick said:
“I want to say a huge thank you to Avove for supporting The Brick and spending the day with us at the ABEN in Leigh. The work delivered has improved the look and feel of the communal area and has helped the residents feel comfortable and happy with the place they live.
“We really appreciate the time given to us and I’m sure there will be more opportunities for collaboration in the future. In all, it was a lovely day and interesting to learn more about Avove and its commitment to encouraging colleague volunteering.”
