Finance Administration Team Gains Firsthand Experience of Water Infrastructure Operations at a Local Site

At Avove, we believe that it is essential that our team have the opportunity to see the real-world impact of the work we do to support the UK’s critical water infrastructure. Recently, our Finance Administration team, accompanied by our Project Manager, Darren Johns, had the chance to visit one of our live sites in Wigan.

Water Infrastructure Operations in Action

The visit took place on a live project site in Wigan. During the visit, the Finance Administration team were able to view the work our project teams are delivering to support water pipes going over the canal to provide water to the community from an underground reservoir. They were also able to see the work we’re doing to build a bypass to the main, which will allow it to be rerouted and drained.

A valuable learning experience

For the Finance Administration team, the visit was a powerful way to connect their everyday tasks – such as processing project data in Proscope and subcontractor payments – with the real-life outcomes those processes support.

Reflecting on the experience, Finance Admin Manager, Sarah Howard said:

“Darren was so accommodating and helped to bring to life what the Finance Admin team processes through Proscope and helped us to understand what our Operations team deals with on a day-to-day basis. We met the client representative, alongside our Site Manager and one of our subcontractors, who we process payments for. This really tied everything together for us and gave us a newfound respect for the business as a whole. We were welcomed onto site and I think the gangs also enjoyed explaining what they do and how they work.”

Our Senior Finance Admin, Nicky Halliwell added:

“The site visit with Darren was a great experience for the whole team to get to see, firsthand, what it looks like out on site and also helps us to be able to understand what we are processing through from the Subcontractors a little better. Darren was so helpful and great at explaining everything to us. We also got to meet some of our own DLO, which was really nice. We really appreciate the opportunity we have to do this and we look forward to going out on site again to gain deeper understanding for the different works Avove complete.”
