Encouraging Female Construction Careers at Avove

The theme of Women in Construction Week in 2025 is ‘Together We Rise’ and the aim of the week is to celebrate the amazing contributions of women within the construction industry. This week we are shining a spotlight on some of our inspiring female colleagues who are paving the way for a brighter and more inclusive future in our industry. We asked a few of our incredible colleagues to share their views about ensuring the construction industry becomes a more inclusive environment.

“Visibility is key and seeing women in leadership positions in the construction and utilities industry can inspire others to pursue careers in this sector. At Avove, we are providing equal opportunities, compensation and a respectful work environment for women. This is one of the best things about working for Avove, I truly believe they strive to provide this for all colleagues.

“Education is an equaliser. It plays a crucial role in empowering women in the construction industry. Providing technical skills and knowledge, opens up opportunities in engineering, project management and leadership roles. It’s great to see companies, like Avove, prioritising graduate development and providing mentorsip and support to female engineers. This kind of commitment can make a significant difference in helping women to succeed and thrive in their careers.

Michelle Moloney | Principal Engineering Manager

“The success of any industry lies in its diversity and women in construction bring unique perspectives, innovation and strength to the field. Breaking and building the future – one project at a time.”

Rachel Brookes | Programme Manager, United Utilities

“Women bring strength, skill and innovation to an industry that thrives on resilience and expertise. Our knowledge, determination and leadership are vital in shaping the future of the construction industry itself.”

“As we continue to challenge stereotypes and push boundaries, we pave the way for a more diverse, inclusive and forward-thinking industry. Our contributions are not just valuable; they are essential in driving progress, innovation and lasting change within the industry for future generations of young girls and women.”

Aimee Hall | Principal Project Manager

Head of HSEQ at Avove, Liz Groundland, shares her insights into female careers in the construction industry.

“As a woman who has been in the industry for more than 25 years, I feel we bring an emotional intelligence with diverse thoughts that help the industry to develop and become more innovative. If we don’t listen and engage with women, we will never become the diverse industry we so desperately need to be.”
