Frazer Lewis

Position: Site Manager

Frazer has worked for the organisation for more than 20 years and started his career on the tools as a repairs and maintenance operative. Frazer has undertaken training and development with the company throughout his career, which has led to his progression to a Site Manager working around the North West and Cheshire.

What does a Site Manager do?

I manage the day-to-day operations of the project ensuring all work is managed and compliant in accordance with legislation and Avove’s procedures. One of my main roles is to ensure that the site is managed in a safe manner – assessing the impact of operations in accordance with our H&S policies; briefings are carried out for all works prior to commencements; and ordering equipment and PPE. I manage both our direct labour workforce and subcontractors.

More recently I have worked on the Vyrnwy Aqueduct Modernisation Programme for United Utilities. This is an innovative project for Avove and we have successfully trialled new ways of working including air-pigging, environmentally friendly haul roads and excavations.

What do you like about working for Avove?

I enjoy managing a site team. I understand what it’s like to be out on the tools and working in all conditions as I’ve been there and worked my way up the ladder to Site Supervisor.

At Avove, we are working on innovative ways to deliver projects for our clients. As a team, we are passionate about the work we do from having a clean and tidy site, good management of our daily tasks and ensuring our paperwork is always in order, to engaging with landowners, farmers and the wider community. It’s great to go back and see some of the work we have done over the years and for people to still talk about it. Water is an everyday essential and we can leave a legacy with the work that we carry out – and a lot of the time people don’t even see or know we’ve been there.

What piece of advice would you give to someone looking to join Avove?

I would recommend getting good experience of working on the tools before going into management – you can then really understand what your team needs from you as their manager.

Avove is a great place to work – there are lots of opportunities.
