Ellie Wild

Position: Operational Planner

Ellie studied Biology, Chemistry and Sports at sixth form college in West Yorkshire when her course was cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A member of her family told her about a role with Avove, working on the Yorkshire Water framework. She joined the company three years ago as an Administrator on the account, which involved assisting all the planners and working through daily admin tasks.

What does an Operational Planner do?

I work on the southern region of the Yorkshire Water contract. My role is to plan and organise all the jobs required on the wastewater contract, which means I liaise with the Highway Authorities, speaking with the client and also customers who may be affected by any works we are carrying out. Daily, I manage the work with my line manager and supervisor, ensuring that all business targets are met.

As a team, we have a progress meeting each morning, so everyone knows what is required for that day. I carry out all the admin tasks which include completing forms and answering emails and enquiries. One of my main tasks is speaking with customers to ensure they know what is happening and when, and to also forward plan dates for jobs coming up.

I love my job and enjoy that every day is different. We work on a variety of jobs so we have new customers and challenges on a daily basis. This makes the role really interesting.

What do you like about working for Avove?

One of the main things I like about working for Avove is that you are listened to – I am ambitious and want to do a good job, and that is recognised. It’s a friendly environment and everyone works together as a team. We are passionate about delivering the best service we can to our clients and customers.

I love working on the account and the team is great.

Do you have any advice for someone looking to get into planning?

Go for it – it’s a great industry to work in. You have to be organised – that’s the key to being a good planner! On the account, we support each other, so being a team player is a must. Being a planner means you have to be good at communication, organisation, teamwork, using your initiative and problem-solving. Avove provides so many opportunities and is passionate about developing colleagues’ skills.
