Nisha Patel

Position: Programme Manager

Nisha graduated from Birmingham University with a degree in Events Management. She moved to the North West more than 10 years ago and started her career in the industry as Project Coordinator; quickly making her way up the ladder to Programme Manager working on the Ministry of Justice contract. Nisha joined the team at Avove in 2022, as Programme Manager for our United Utilities account.

What does a Programme Manager do?

As a Programme Manager, I work closely with Project Managers and Site Managers to manage and maintain our busy schedules and programmes across the North West, managing and maintaining United Utilities water infrastructure. I help with the coordination of the training for all our staff working on the account with our Training Coordinator.

One of the areas I really enjoy is working with our client. We use data and systems to communicate, ensuring we manage expectations and meet project management deadlines on the programmes and keep them updated on progress.

What do you like about working for Avove?

I feel empowered by my manager, I feel like I am being listened to! I’ve moved into utilities and understanding the industry and how everything works doesn’t come overnight. It’s been challenging, however, having the support of the team and my manager has made a massive difference to my experience – I feel very supported. I can be open and honest with what’s going on – and this is listened to.

As a busy working mum, I am thankful for the flexibility and balance I am given around working from home and the office, whilst juggling childcare. I don’t ever have to give this a second thought.

Do you have any advice for someone looking to work in this industry?

Don’t worry if you start off slow. Take your time and work smarter not harder.

Every day try to make a difference with people and for the company you work for. It’s a great industry to work in and it’s opened my eyes to the opportunities available.
